My final project for Color Photography 220.00 attempts to document how I often feel while inside the busy Peirce servery. Sometimes during the busy dining hours, when I walk in to get food, I have this overwhelming feeling of anxiety that makes me want to flee the servery as fast as possible. When it is at its’ worse, I get absolutely no food and leave right away. I’ve gotten better and now when I feel like this, I get some fruits and vegetables and sit down for a while. To start as a background I took photos of my friends in 4 different places during the normal day to day Kenyon experiences: Peirce, Middle Path, Chalmers, and the bookstore.
These photos of my friends provide a background for my experiences. This part of the project was inspired by Kris Graves, whose photography I think is really interesting though I find their NFT projects harmful. Specifically Grave’s framing of the photos in his work, the ‘TESTAMENT PROJECT’ inspired how I took these background photos.
With the larger photos in the middle, I used a long shutter speed with a tripod to be able to capture these shots of people moving through Peirce. The long exposure documents people blending and consuming the frame in a larger-than-life way. I attempt to show the viewer frozen in time, while the world rushes quickly past them, just as the overwhelming Peirce servery consumes me. Special thanks to Claire, Monmita, Joe, Kaya, Lucien, and Jenna.
